The first 3 dimensions are: 1-D a point, 2-D a line or a plane, and 3-D a solid.
The 4th dimension is time. The gift of time is the gift of seeing in 4 dimensions.
Most people live their whole life seeing in 1, 2, or 3 dimensions.
Seeing in 1-D signifies that some things are not being seen.
Seeing in 2-D indicates living on the surface or superficially.
Seeing in 3-D means there is depth and complexity in life.
Seeing in 4-D allows past and future to be seen in the present.
Seeing in 4 dimensions allows glimpses of possibilities, which might not be completely accurate, but add an extra dimension on which to act. Seeing something in 4 dimensions encompasses its past and future qualities. Holding a pencil, you see it in 3-D as a pencil. In 4-D, you see the pencil as it was — wood, a tree, sun, water and soil. You can see the pencil as it will be — a drawing, words on paper, trash disintegrating to dust. Suddenly, a pencil takes on a beautiful life of its own.
When objects are seen, not superficially but in 4-D, the long-term consequences can be considered. In 4-D, when fuel economy is a growing issue, a person would purchase a higher mpg vehicle, saving money and reducing pollution. Looking at the bigger picture helps to avoid future problems, resulting in a more harmonious life.

It seems that women are more in tune with seeing in 4 dimensions and are more aware of possible consequences of actions. This might be the result of being the weaker sex, requiring women to be more aware of possible dangers. This might be the result of women being the caregivers, requiring mothers to be more aware of their children’s possible future. In general, men are able to see in 3.1 dimensions and women are able to see in 3.2 dimensions. The parts that men and women miss are the thousands of possible paths that time offers. When one sees in 4 dimensions, more harmonious choices become available.
People who see life as a movie see in 2 or 3 dimensions ;-).
Seeing in 4 dimensions helps a person become more of a writer/director of the movie, making the story one which can be shaped in surprising and uplifting ways.
Seeing in 4 dimensions is similar to “the power of intension”, when one sees a potential future and moves toward it. The difference is that seeing in 4 dimensions applies to countless pasts and futures seen, where as “the power of intension” focuses on one main future goal.
Another example of seeing in 4 dimensions is when looking at a plastic bottle of water. In 4-D, it is 1/4 filled with oil, because that is the reality of the energy costs and the resulting pollution. If one wouldn’t throw 3oz of oil on the ground, then one shouldn’t drink that 12oz bottle of water.

P.S. If you understand the Middle Way, then you know that “Reality is Between the Dualities”, so it comes down to limiting those plastic bottles to as few as will still allow happiness (try for only 1-5 a year, using refillables the rest of the time).
Many people have trouble seeing in 4 dimensions, which occurs because very few can talk about it. Since words are abstractions which try to represent reality, let’s try examining a word/object in 4-D…. a flower.
In 1-D, the flower isn’t even seen. In 2-D, the flower is seen like a photo. In 3-D, the flower is something to examine, touch, and smell. In 4-D, wow… breathtakingly beautiful.
Everyone should relate to these examples of the first 3 dimensions. Some have experienced this example of 4 dimensions. Those that experience the “wow” are sensing the joy of being in the presence of such transient beauty.
Two words, sense and transient, might be especially helpful, in that one begins to sense the time dimension, which is transient and called the “now”. In the above example, if you substituted the word “now” for “flower”, it might help one to understand the dimension of “now”.
Many sages talk about “being in the now”… the present moment. Realized that they speak of this because people cause themselves so much suffering dwelling in the past or future. Although seeing in time can lead to unnecessary suffering, seeing in 4 dimensions can lead to additional happiness and harmony. Being more aware… awake… mindful are all positive qualities that every sage promotes. The Gift of Time is to make people more aware/awake/mindful of an object’s time aspects (past and future, viewed in the present).
In terms of the Middle Way, if we are at a particular spot between the dualities, there is space on the left and right in which to move. If we called those spaces “positive” and “negative”, we can point (move) in a positive (happier) direction or a negative (suffering) direction. Most people view time in a negative way, since time brings change and death. But sight is certainly a gift, and the Gift of Time is the gift of seeing more (dimensions/qualities) in objects.
The funny thing about a gift is that some will appreciate and use it, while others will not. All we can do is be a giving person with the hope that some of the gifts bring lasting happiness, through awareness and mindfulness.
Here is an interesting question… what is the actual difference from watching a video live vs. a recorded video? The objective reality is that the video is the same, which means the equivalent viewing experience… almost like a form of time travel (the body didn’t travel, but the mind has in some manner. the surroundings and timeframe have changed, but the video hasn’t).
Realized that some might think this odd, since they see the video as either “live or recorded”. That is the conventional 2D viewpoint. Looking at it from that viewpoint, the question becomes “what is it that travels with the words and images in the video?” The images and audio are captured in a video format, and that continues thru time. In today’s world, the video is captured digitally (zeros and ones) as a form of wave vibrations (colors and sounds). This is an example of how vibrations can travel thru time.
BTW… the previous comment is a result of the Burning Man talk called “Learning to Time Travel”, as “time travel” (4D) is another way to describe “live vs recorded” (2D).
Posted “Evolution in Four Dimensions” today, which explains that human animals seeing in 1, 2, or 3 dimensions cannot comprehend the world in 4 dimensions.
