Transcript of Day3: When one understands the need to stop the runaway train we are on, then one can understand the wisdom in stopping increases in pollution. By stopping these increases, we will not be making some huge change; everyone and every nation will be allowed to create the same level of pollution as the year before. That is the key to stopping the train we are on. It is not attempting some radical change, but its a way to begin to see pollution as a serious problem. Every business, person and family in every nation must quantify the pollution they create. Those who stay under are fine. Those who create more pollution will pay for more renewable energy production. In industrial nations, utility bills can make consumers aware if they are decreasing or increasing their energy usage. In more primitive nations, people can ration out their resources, so that they do not generate more pollution.
Some will say that stopping pollution increases is not enough; that we must reduce pollution levels dramatically. This is true, but Middleway’s message is not dramatic, in order to slow the train. Slowing the train will allow safer passage through curves in the track. This, in combination with the other 2Ps will stop the train.
Environmental and religious groups must take the lead in implementing legislation to stop increases in pollution. At the heart of all wise religions, caring for our world must be at its core. We must all work together to help stop increases in pollution.
Tomorrow the second P, the second Problem will be described.
Once a nation decides to stop increases in CO2 pollution, it is possible to reduce their carbon footprint as well, simply by switching over to wind, solar, geo-thermal, or other renewable sources. Another words, someone using 1KW of coal produced electricity could use 1KW of a mix of coal and wind electricity reducing CO2 emissions.
Countries wanting to become more industrialized, can find ways to obtain more energy without increasing carbon emissions. This can be done by planting more trees or using carbon offsets. Manufacturing nations like China, Germany and the USA, who produce renewable energy projects, can take a portion of the carbon offset, based upon a reduction in price. Another words, a 50% reduction in price means the manufacturing nation will receive 50% of the carbon offset.
